Curiosity and Wonder…

I often wonder how a flower blooms beneath the snow
Or how a tree that’s been cut down can find the strength to grow
Why is it that a fallen penny can bring a day of luck?
That is of course only if you choose to pick it up!
Do you ever look up at the sky and wonder why we cannot see
All of the other wondrous things that are in the galaxy?
And how it’s possible that the universe stretches far and wide
I often find I am curious about what lies beyond the other side
Have you ever wondered how the moon shines so brightly from afar?
Or how it’s possible that a wish can come true when made upon a star?
Nor how you feel the wind on your cheeks but that it cannot be seen
You only know it’s there when it sways around the green!
Why is it that the French speak French but in Israel it’s Hebrew?
How come the pigs and chickens oink and cluck, but do not moo?
Questions big and small occupy a curious mind
Of course to be curious and curiouser is the only way to find
The answers, yet I pause to question if I’d really like to know
Because there is a certain magic that lies within wondering, how so?

Faults and Desires

I wish that I was witty
I wish that I was bright
I wish that I was pretty
Without a fault in sight
I’d like to be impulsive
And more successful too
I often feel repulsive
And wish that I was you.
You wish that you were daring
You wish that you were wise
You wish that you were caring
Without one fault to criticise
You would like to be bold
Plus charming and carefree
Yourself, you often scold
And wish that you were me
The beauty within you, is the beauty within me
But the beauty in each other, is all we often see…

Inspired by the world…

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not. – Dr Seuss

Do we want to live?
Or merely survive?
Because incase you’ve failed to notice
This world can no longer thrive

A land we call home
Anchored down by hate and greed
Smothered each day by mans cruel hand
Thoughtlessness forces innocence to bleed

And desperately plea with your heart
The one you lost when you chose to start
Ignoring the consequences of each choice that you make
The lives you shatter and the lives you take

For you don’t have to hold a knife in your hand
To contribute pain and destruction to those who inhabit the land
Oh the land, this treasured land of wonder
All of its beauty drowning in thunder

Thunderous screams of pain and sorrow
Hearts full of anguish for tomorrow
And what is tomorrow ? What will it be?
Sadly a future that i cannot see

I hope for understanding, accountability, transformation
But for real change we need more than imagination
How much more can we lose in the name of money and power
Try spending that money from that ivory tower

Whilst the fire burns and the water rises
And you realise the true value of all of your prizes
Are worthless and empty like much of the globe
That once was as royal as a monarchs robe

How disappointing it is to think that this is all we could be
Deforestation, co2 and a plastic sea
We should have higher expectations of ourselves and each other
Because if we do I am certain that wondrous life can recover

But it’s not just down to the big and neither the small
It’s down to everyone, one and all
If we want to live and not barely survive
We must sacrifice privilege for the luxury of being alive.

Smile at the Sun and Wave to the Moon

Crisp blue skies with a gentle chill
A cluster of clouds, free and floating above the hill
Bathing, basking beneath the sun
Safely watching the river run
Swiftly, glistening against the clay
Who guides his friend in the month of May
And helps the daisies to stand tall
Strong and bright, beautiful to all
A soft breeze ruffles through the tree’s
And kindly wakes the honey bee’s
Whose calming buzz tempts the birds
To sweetly sing their tuneful words
I listen, I watch this treasured land
And offer forth a helping hand
To reep what you sow and take what you give
A lesson to bare in mind whilst you live
For beauty has limits it’s a sacred thing
An eagle cannot fly with a broken wing
Nor reach heights of conquered bliss
Or feel the powers of natures kiss
Which heals, soothes and nurtures the soul
When the woes of life begin to take their toll
For air and soil far surpass any pill
That man made for a temporary fill
But rather the chill on your cheeks and the sand in your toes
These are the things which truly silence the crows
So smile at the sun and wave to the moon
Then, shall you dance to life’s marvellous tune.
