Bonkers is a friend of mine
I’ve grown to know her well
Ever since I met her
Life turned so truly swell
She shared with me a secret
One that changes life for good
If I could have altered sooner
Then there’s no doubt that I would
I’ll tell you what she told me
But you must promise not to tell
She said that life is grander
When you break free from its spell
To shake it you must wiggle
Until the charm has shimmied down
Then a new kind of magic
Will turn your frown upside down
Forever you’ll feel lighter
You’ll start to truly live
Your world will be far brighter
When you no longer have any cares to give!

Mortality
If I could live forever
To die, is what I’d choose
Everything means nothing when you’ve got zero to lose.

Needle and Thread
There’s a tear in my heart
And out of it seeps grief
I feel it ripping further
My happiness it thieves
I try to stitch it up
But my thread is thin and frayed
My needle left six new holes
And let the loss further invade
I tried to patch it up
With lots of tape and glue
But each time they were overwhelmed
By the pain I felt for you
The person that I’m not
Nor will ever be
The person you desire
The one that isn’t me.

Ladders in the sky
If there were ladders in the sky, I would climb up into space
I’d sail around the planets and check the moon really has a face
I’d sing into a black hole and wait to see if it called back
I’d dance on Saturn’s rings whilst stars around me litter the black
I’d jump on board a comet and soar through the Milky Way
Weaving through all seventy nine of Jupiter’s moons on display
I’d ask the universe all of the questions in my mind
How far does it stretch? What’s in front and what’s behind?
Is the moon really made of cheese and if so, does it taste divine?
If life exists beyond our own would you please give us a sign?
I’d skate on Neptune’s icy rink and then picnic on Pluto
Then watch the sunset on mars before back down to Earth I go!

Candyfloss Nostalgia
The air, it smells like summer
Like freedom in July
I get candyfloss nostaglia
When I smell apple pie
The night is black and bitter
The air smells of cigars
I get candyfloss nostalgia
Around bonfires beneath stars
The atmosphere is magic
Frank Sinatra’s singing out
I get candyfloss nostalgia
When Christmas comes about
The day is fresh and charming
Bluebells sleep below the trees
I get candyfloss nostalgia
When I relive old memories.

Hello, mighty rainbow!
There’s a rainbow in the distance
I wonder where it will lead
I think I’ll go and ask it
And with it I shall plead
To let me follow closely
Wherever it may go
And perch upon its arches
As it bounces in the snow
Hello, might rainbow!
Where is it that you’re from?
Where do you plan travel
When from here, you’ll soon be gone?
Might I come with you?
I’d like to fly away
And soak up all your colour
So my skies are never grey
Together we can journey
To places far and wide
Hopping through the meadows
Through the mountains we can glide
When our days are over
And it’s time to stop and dream
We’ll settle by a river
Where softly you will beam
Mighty rainbow smiled so brightly
And agreed that I may come
But I must jump aboard quickly
For its time here was nearly done
Thank you, mighty rainbow!
I’ll climb upon your bow
And hug your stripes so tightly
As away, away we go!

Lost and Found
Life is sometimes hidden between the stars of the night sky
Guiding those towards them when it is their turn to fly
Temporarily lost but always waiting to be found
Although far away, to you, their hearts are forever bound
Patient, in the distance they wait and watch closely from above
For the day that you meet again and reunite your love.

Whispers tiptoe in the wind
Whispers tiptoe in the wind
Of fortunes yet to come
Tempting lost and adrift souls
With their enchanting hum
Promises of riches
Trick and fool each absent mind
Bewitched, they follow closely
Not knowing they are blind
Hushed murmurs slither in the breeze
And lure them to their death
Their charming tune grows silent
As they snatch your final breath.

Heaven
Free falling gently, slow enough to see
White linen clouds, calmly drift past me
Birds singing softly, lulling me to sleep
The sun beaming brightly, until I cannot hear a peep.

An ocean of contradiction
This pool of blue
This sapphire
Found beyond our shore
Destroys and it inspires
I fear and yet adore
This immense jewel
This being
Living lone and wild
It’s waves are freeing
Yet its current reviled
This living soul
This spirit
It wanders like a ghost
It’s shadows often visit
And haunt along the coast
This beating heart
This capsule
Gathers lost and found
Harbours wisdom and fool
Tales and secrets bound
This treasure chest
This beauty
Vast and wide you spread
Capturing innocence cruelly
Life and love you’ve bled
This thing sublime
This pearl
Your waves gently brush ashore
Crashing against the world
Flooding cries of love and war.
